In 1921, Grossberg moved to Sommerhausen, a small town south of Würzburg. He lived and worked there with his wife, Mathilde, known as Tilde, in a house by the historic city wall. He converted the Flurerturm (Flurer Tower) into his studio.
The painting shows the entrance to Sommerhausen, the Würzburger Tor (Würzburg gate) from a slightly elevated viewpoint. Its green colour contrasts with the red roofs of the surrounding houses. The church tower rises high on the left.
