Among the series of works depicting the Chatou Bridge, this one stands out: the bridge is not seen from a distance, but from a lower perspective, from the immediate edge of the riverbank. It looms mightily on the left of the picture, its arches in dark blue, like a barrier. A lone angler stands on the bank, moving away from the water rather than towards it, or about to turn to cast his line. A small boat passes by on the right, its white sail reflected in the water and slightly cut off by the right edge of the picture. This gives the impression that the scene is a fleeting snapshot.
To the right of the bridge, the first houses of the village can be seen. They are close together, roughly painted white with red and blue roofs. The tall trees beside them provide a compositional balance to the bridge. In front of it is a green, floating washhouse, which Vlaminck also captured in other paintings.
