Like the Still Life, this painting from the local museum collection was acquired by August von der Heydt, probably in the late 1910s. When August von der Heydt died in 1929, it passed to his son Eduard von der Heydt, who donated it to the museum in 1952.

Painted in shades of dark green and sandy brown, the scene shows the stone Chatou railway bridge in the background on the right and a landing stage with three sailing boats in the foreground. One of the boats is ready to leave, with two figures on board. The hoisted sail, with its flat, light triangle, forms the centre of the composition and gives it a calm stability. The smooth surface of the water, which merges with the background on the left, shows no movement. A few splashes of red enliven the picture. The painting is not dated - Vlaminck himself rarely dated his works - but the stylistic parallels suggest that it was painted around 1908. The painting 'Sailboats at Chatou', painted around 1908, shows similarities in both colour and form.
