Lischke, Emmy (Elberfeld, 13.11.1860 - München, 14.5.1919) | Maler:in

01:08

Emmy Lischke was born in Elberfeld in 1860. She was the daughter of the mayor of Elberfeld, Karl Emil Lischke. She was educated in Düsseldorf, where she studied privately with professors at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. At the time, women were not allowed to study. After her father's death in 1886, she moved to Munich with her mother, where she continued her training, became a member of the Munich Artists' Association and excelled in landscape and still life painting. Until her death she regularly took part in major art exhibitions and her work was discussed in contemporary publications. However, her work fell into oblivion and little is known about her oeuvre.
The painting 'Beach scene' was donated to the museum's collection by the artist. As far as we know today, the exact year of acquisition is unknown, as no documentation has survived. Lischke died in 1919, the year in which the museum received two other paintings by the artist: one as a gift from the Museum Society and one as a bequest from the artist.
