Knowledge about the collection is never complete. It is continually complemented, extended, tested and corrected: through research and exchange among specialists, but also through exhibitions and the dialogue with the museum’s visitors. Incorporating differing perspectives is crucial in this process. In this way, for instance, attributions, dates or interpretations of artworks change.
Knowledge about the collection is preserved in inventory registers, file cards and archived documents, as well as in a database. Through publications of all kinds (both analogue and digital) it is sustainably communicated. Since 2022 the Digital Collection offers also the option of exploring the inventories of the Von der Heydt-Museum online.
