Komposition (Bild III)

Horschik, Adelheid (1924-1986) | Künstler:in

01:20

Adelheid Horschik was part of the vibrant Wuppertal art scene of the 1950s and 60s. She painted, sculpted, designed mosaics and stained glass windows. Her work was exhibited at the legendary Wuppertal gallery 'Parnass' as early as the 1950s. One of her mosaics, 'The Judgement of Solomon' from 1955, hangs on the wall behind the judge's bench in the courtroom of the Wuppertal District Court. The Catholic Church of St Michael in Elberfeld and the Protestant Church in Solingen-Gräfrath are adorned with stained glass windows by the artist.

The collection of the Von der Heydt Museum includes several works by the artist, who was born in Wuppertal in 1924. This painting, entitled 'Komposition (Bild III)' from 1961, is composed without objects, while her sculptures from this period are somewhere between figurative and abstract. It entered the museum's collection as a purchase from the annual exhibition of Bergische Künstler in 1961. Next to the abstract work by Aurélie Nemours on the left, there are parallels in the composition and arrangement of the painterly forms and squares, even if the artistic realisation seems completely different at first glance.
