In the museum the proportion of the unknown relative to the generally well-known is great, for no museum has enough space to show its entire collection. The greater part of the collection is stored in repositories.
Here, many unknown or only seldom exhibited artefacts can be discovered. Especially the area of decorative arts has hardly been displayed in recent decades. For a time it did indeed have a high ranking. For several years it was even called “Städtisches Museum für Kunst und Kunstgewerbe” (Municipal Museum for Art and Decorative Arts). But relative to the high-quality inventories, especially of painting and sculpture, decorative arts finally receded completely into the background.
