The Wuppertal collection is distinctly West European, with connections to the region. With its Eurocentric conception of art, it is aligned with the museum-ideal of the early 20th century, the period of its founding. A selection of the most important works can be viewed on the first floor under the title Times and Places.
Apart from works from the established European and Western traditions, however, there is also evidence from other of the world’s cultures, especially in the areas of sculpture and decorative arts. They originate from Africa, Asia, America and Oceania. To this extent, the global, regional and local intermingle.
